The Butterfly House

The Butterfly House contains over 1000 butterflies with many different species from North & South America and Asia. Sit back and relax in the wonderful garden setting with the background sounds of a waterfall and nature itself. Or, follow live butterflies as they flutter from flower to flower feeding on the nectar or as they search for their mates, dance and bask in the warm sunshine.
The average life span of the butterfly is 2 to 3 weeks, so each week new species are introduced. With over 100 different species throughout the season, multiple visits can be rewarding.

The Ohio Bird Sanctuary is a Non-profit Organization dedicated to Raptor Rehabilitation and Education. Raptor Display Cages are free and open for viewing by the public with 15 species of Birds of Prey. Our Songbird Aviary is always a big hit, containing a varying amounts of birds and species at any one time. Visitors may purchase mealworms to hand feed our aviary birds. The Sanctuary is on 72 Acres of land, with 6 different hiking trials going through forest, pine groves, and along the Clearfork River. Summer kids camps are also available.

Kids of all ages agree that one of the most popular attractions in the Hocking Hills is the free Petting Zoo at Rempel’s Grove including several varieties of Deer and Goats. Feed available, Kiddie Carousel and Shaded rest area with bench. Rempel’s Grove dates back to the 1840’s when the site was used as a community picnic ground. Before the Civil War, these woods were known for hotly debated political gatherings, huge ox roasts, and railroad fund raising rallies. After the Civil War, local war hero and capitalist Col. Ferdinand Rempel, the City of Logan, and the Hocking Valley Railroad, hosted a reunion for over 1,000 Union veterans, with then Governor (and later President) William McKinley.

Our Amish home was built in 1848 and is open for a self guided tour. Finish your visit with the petting area where kids will want to feed the goats, sheep, pony, and donkeys. Stop by the chicken coop and play with the barnyard cats before you leave.

The barn tour will take you through our 119 year old bank barn. The barn is always the center of an Old Order Amish homestead. Our barn, built in 1885, is no exception. Visit during the spring and you’ll be sure to see many newborn farm animals! Children especially enjoy the baby bunnies, lambs (we often have twins and even triplets!), Beagle puppies and colts. Our friendly guides will gladly get the babies out for you to hold.
